Metafisica dei costumi di Immanuel Kant

The volume presents the complete Italian translation of the “Metaphysics of Morals” written by Immanuel Kant in 1797, which includes the “Doctrine of Right” and the “Doctrine of Virtue”. The translation with the parallel German text, the introductory essay, the editorial note, the chronology, the commentary, the bibliography, the Glossary with a list of “Keywords” and a series of five appendixes are all the work of the editor of the volume. The additional essay on “Kantian Renaissance” is by Roberto Mordacci. The translation is based on the text by Paul Natorp published in 1914 with the second edition of the sixth volume of the “Kant’s gesammelte Schriften”. This text presents a number of editorial inconsistencies, repeatedly pointed out by the recent Kantian philology. Ludwig Bernd has edited a publication that aims at smoothing out these inconsistencies by putting back in their original place short passages or whole paragraphs, thus trying to hand down the text as it should have appeared in its original form. The present edition is not oblivious of this philological preoccupation, but refers back to the text of 1797 and to the second edition of 1798, which were the ones that had an impact on the following editions. The appendices contain commentaries by the first critics of Kant’s work: the review by Bouterwerk, which caused a response by Kant himself that was then included in the second edition; the compendiums by Mellin and Schmid, clarifying certain aspects of the complex Kantian theory; an overview of critical philosophy, which was completed and concluded by the “Metaphysics of Morals”; finally, a list of volumes on ethical and juridical matters contained in Kant’s library.

Il volume presenta la traduzione italiana integrale della "Metafisica dei costumi" del 1797, che comprende "La dottrina del diritto" e "La dottrina della virtù". Al curatore si deve la traduzione, accompagnata dal testo tedesco a fronte, il saggio introduttivo, la nota editoriale, la cronologia, il commentario, la bibliografia, il glossario con le "Parole chiave", infine una serie di cinque appendici. Roberto Mordacci ha redatto un saggio integrativo sulla "Kant-Renaissance". La traduzione si basa sul testo stabilito da Paul Natorp nel 1914 per la seconda edizione del sesto volume delle "Kant's gesammelte Schriften". Il testo soffre di una serie di incongruenze redazionali, su cui la filologia kantiana ha molto insistito di recente. Ludwig Bernd ha curato un'edizione che mira a risolvere le diverse incongruenze del testo originale mediante la ricollocazione di brani e interi paragrafi, con lo scopo di consegnare il testo così come sarebbe dovuto apparire. La presente edizione, pur tenendo conto di questo scrupolo filologico, si attiene al testo del 1797 e alla seconda edizione del 1798, dal momento che è quello che ha inciso storicamente. In appendice vengono presentati testi illustrativi e di commento, opera dei primi interpreti di Kant: la recensione di Bouterwek, che diede origine a una replica da parte di Kant; i compendi di Mellin e Schmid, che costituiscono esposizioni chiarificatrici di alcuni aspetti della complessa teoria kantiana. In appendice si trova anche uno schema generale della filosofia critica, del cui sistema la "Metafisica dei costumi" rappresenta il compimento; infine una lista di libri di carattere etico-giuridico presenti del catalogo della Biblioteca che fu di Kant.
