The article contributes to theoretical and empirical analysis of how digital technologies affect different areas of welfare. To this end, it first provides an overview of the contribution of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) to the digitisation processes of social policy in Italy. Second, it distinguishes three thematic macro-areas of growing research interest: digitised welfare, digital welfare and «new social-digital» risks. The final section presents the contributions to this focus and offers some initial reflections on researching social policy in digitised contexts. The article highlights that the debate on the multiple impacts of digitalisation on social policy, while growing, still seems to be largely incomplete. This is true both in terms of methodology, as it requires greater multidisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity, and in terms of substantive insights into specific policy and normative issues.
