Competenze linguistiche a confronto. Indagine tra i bambini della Valle di Viù (area francoprovenzale)

The paper presents the results of a research carried out at the primary and secondary school of Viù, in the Lanzo Valleys, belonging to the Francoprovençal language domain. The data collected come from a sociolinguistic inquiry which involved 63 children aged 7 to 13 years and aimed at empirically verifying the degree of competence of the local Francoprovençal variety. The results obtained showed a good correspondence between the linguistic competences declared in the self-evaluation questionnaire and the actu- al ones. They also highlighted how, sometimes, there is a minimum competence of the patois in children who are not native to the place, signal that the Francoprovençal still maintains a certain presence in the linguistic landscape of the Viu Valley, partly due to the policies of protection and promotion of the language.
