This chapter presents the adaptation to the Italian context of measurement tools for the empirical study of smart working, with a specific focus on the relationship between the intensive use of ICT technologies, techno-overload, and job satisfaction. Drawing on the international literature on technostress, the chapter adapts and validates the techno-overload subscale, designed to measure the overload generated by digital technologies in terms of increased work pace, intensity, and duration. At the same time, it adapts to the Italian context a short measure of job satisfaction, the Michigan Organizational Assessment Questionnaire – Job Satisfaction Subscale, used as an indicator of work-related well-being and of the quality of the relationship between individuals and their work. The chapter documents the procedures of translation, reconciliation, back-translation, and psychometric validation, relying on reliability analyses as well as exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. It also develops indices of technostress inhibitors, considering organizational resources such as training for remote work, perceived adequacy of ICT equipment and connectivity, company support in providing digital tools, and forms of regulation of smart working. The contribution therefore provides a methodological framework for analysing digital pressures and organizational resources shaping the experience of remote workers in Italy.
Il capitolo presenta l’adattamento al contesto italiano di strumenti di misura utili allo studio empirico dello smart working, con particolare attenzione al rapporto tra uso intensivo delle tecnologie ICT, techno-overload e soddisfazione lavorativa. Muovendo dalla letteratura internazionale sul technostress, il contributo adatta e valida la sub-scala di techno-overload, dedicata alla rilevazione del sovraccarico prodotto dall’impiego delle tecnologie digitali in termini di aumento dei ritmi, dell’intensità e della durata della prestazione lavorativa. Parallelamente, il capitolo adatta al contesto italiano una misura breve di job satisfaction, la Michigan Organizational Assessment Questionnaire – Job Satisfaction Subscale, considerata come indicatore di benessere lavorativo e di qualità della relazione tra individuo e lavoro. Il lavoro documenta le procedure di traduzione, riconciliazione, back-translation e verifica psicometrica delle scale, utilizzando analisi di affidabilità e analisi fattoriali esplorative e confermative. Il capitolo costruisce inoltre indici relativi agli inibitori di technostress, considerando risorse organizzative quali formazione sul lavoro agile, adeguatezza delle dotazioni ICT e della connessione, supporto aziendale nella fornitura di strumenti digitali e forme di regolazione del lavoro agile. Il contributo offre così un apparato metodologico per analizzare le pressioni digitali e le risorse organizzative che incidono sull’esperienza dei lavoratori da remoto in Italia.
