The diachronical discontinuity and the synchronical heterogeneity that characterize the grammatical meta-language adopted as a “work language” in the teaching of Italian language are motivated in relation to the change of theoretical models adopted to explain ideas, categories, descriptive notions of the linguistic system, but also to adapt them to specific objectives in didactics, to the educational needs and to the different target audiences. In this perspective, in particular when focusing on the basic literacy of the first 50 years after Italian Unity, undeniable elements of discontinuity emerge by comparing on one side the terminology used in the institutional indications, on the other the one proposed by the school books and finally the one realistically used in teaching, analyzed through school notebooks from the considered time.By keeping in cautious accounting the aspects linked to the frequency of the occurrences of single technical terms typical of metalinguistic vocabulary, this contribution aims at verifying if, to what extent and in which category of sources, from the time and the educational segment considered, would eventually be detectable a tendency to the redundancy in nomenclature typical of the traditional grammatical education .

Abstract
The diachronical discontinuity and the synchronical heterogeneity that characterize the grammatical meta-language adopted as a “work language” in the teaching of Italian language are motivated in relation to the change of theoretical models adopted to explain ideas, categories, descriptive notions of the linguistic system, but also to adapt them to specific objectives in didactics, to the educational needs and to the different target audiences. In this perspective, in particular when focusing on the basic literacy of the first 50 years after Italian Unity, undeniable elements of discontinuity emerge by comparing on one side the terminology used in the institutional indications, on the other the one proposed by the school books and finally the one realistically used in teaching, analyzed through school notebooks from the considered time.By keeping in cautious accounting the aspects linked to the frequency of the occurrences of single technical terms typical of metalinguistic vocabulary, this contribution aims at verifying if, to what extent and in which category of sources, from the time and the educational segment considered, would eventually be detectable a tendency to the redundancy in nomenclature typical of the traditional grammatical education .File | Dimensione | Formato | |
