The Energy Community is an international organisation in which the European Union and nine Balkan and Eastern European States participate to implement the technical cooperation necessary for the creation of an integrated natural gas and electricity market. To achieve such a result, it is a prerequisite that suitable market and regulatory structures are in place in the States that take part in the Energy Community. Therefore, the Energy Community encourages reforms that, inter alia, promote competition and limit public intervention in the economy. These are distinctive features of the European integration process, closely linked to the market economy model adopted by the European Union and in relation to which the acquis communautaire has largely developed. The purpose of this paper is to clarify what has been done in the context of the Energy Community with regard to these profiles.
