Based on an analysis of students’ difficulties in understanding the angle as a mathematical object, this exploratory study involved designing, implementing and validating Angolandia, a two-part simulation game aimed at enhancing primary school students’ comprehension of the concept of angle. We report the outcomes of observations conducted during the implementation of the game with 40 primary school children attending either fourth or fifth grade, interviews and tests administered to the children before and after the educational intervention, and interviews administered to their teachers. Finally, we discuss the effectiveness of the game and its component activities and materials, which enabled the students to identify key regularities and thus to construct their own initial representations of angle: the key learning outcomes included noting the division of the plane into two regions, representing extensions of line segments, and verbalizing aspects of unlimitedness.

Abstract
Based on an analysis of students’ difficulties in understanding the angle as a mathematical object, this exploratory study involved designing, implementing and validating Angolandia, a two-part simulation game aimed at enhancing primary school students’ comprehension of the concept of angle. We report the outcomes of observations conducted during the implementation of the game with 40 primary school children attending either fourth or fifth grade, interviews and tests administered to the children before and after the educational intervention, and interviews administered to their teachers. Finally, we discuss the effectiveness of the game and its component activities and materials, which enabled the students to identify key regularities and thus to construct their own initial representations of angle: the key learning outcomes included noting the division of the plane into two regions, representing extensions of line segments, and verbalizing aspects of unlimitedness.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
